My first maternity portrait, featuring Wendy and Bryant
The other reason I travelled to Kuala Lumpur early May was to do this series of maternity portrait. Wendy and I used to go to the same university back in the days, and when she told me about her pregnancy earlier this year. I was excited, and felt honored as she called me in to do this maternity portraiture for her.

Wendy, pretty and cute mom-to-be is at week 20 into her pregnancy.
I arranged the meet up and the session with the couple after the wedding, and my trip to Malacca. This session was my first portraiture session I have done outside Kuching. So, the challenge is the unexpected. I couldn’t really predict how the shooting location would be like. I also couldn’t get a contact in Kuala Lumpur to loan me some equipments. Hence, I chose to play safe. I brought (almost) all of my equipments along. I thought, it s always better be safe than sorry. I didn’t want to miss out on certain items, and left with regrets.

A kiss from Daddy to the baby, as Mommy smiles. Can you feel the happiness in her?
Well, truth is, I brought a little bit too much. Some of the things I brought weren’t utilized.
I shot all these with my trusty workhorse Canon EOS 50D, with these lenses, Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II and Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. Most of the shots came from the fabulous 50mm f/1.8. Most of the the shots are taken with available lighting. I had to light up a few with my flashes, as the available lighting was a bit poor. For flashes, I used Canon Speedlite 580EX, YongNuo Speedlite YN560, and a Nissin di866. Flashes were fired at manual power, triggered by 3rd party trigger.

Happy couple, Wendy and Bryant.
Here are some of my favorite shots for the series. During time of shooting, Wendy was only at week 20 into her pregnancy, that is why her tummy is not that big. Nevertheless, it was a good experience. I am looking forward to meeting them for a followup session when Wendy goes into the final trimester.

I love this shot. I think this shot flatters Wendy a lot, she looks beautiful here, and is well-lit by the soft lighting from the windows.

Doing a Master Yoga impression. This shot was light up with two flashes, one on left, and the other on the right. Simple set up.

Being intimate. I thought it's also good to show the intimacy between the husband and wife.
I hope you guys enjoy the shots as much I enjoyed shooting them! Cheers!
